How to Search for Funding Opportunities (Solicitations)

Fundamental to research is securing funding to do said research. There are some slower and faster ways to find funding, with an associated cost in either time or money. This is a non-exhaustive list of platforms to consider when searching for funding. If you have another way that’s not listed here, please send it to ResearchDevelopment@asu.edu.

Sign up for direct emails from your sponsor agency/organization of choice. This is a free option and could give you insight on the programs and funding trajectory over time.

Here are some other options for you to consider above and beyond your sponsor of interest. All provided links are alphabetical order.

Government aggregator platforms:

  • FederalRegister.gov includes solicitations and a lot more, including requests for information (RFI). See why RFI’s are important on this blog: https://funding.asu.edu/articles/why-you-should-respond-requests-information-rfis. This platform is again, free, but may provide you more information than you need.
  • Grants.gov collects most (if not all) of active (or predicted) funding opportunities from US grant-making agencies. The site has a robust (compared to previous iterations) search function, with a lot of additional resources when you decide to pursue a grant.
  • Sam.gov is collects a variety of contracts available through US federal agencies. The award mechanism is different here, which means you need to know the difference between grants and contracts before using. However, there may be overlap between postings here and on Grants.gov.

Subscription platforms:

Consultants and consulting firms can be engaged to provide specific solicitations or lists of solicitations for your work as well. These agreements may be navigated at a higher level than an individual, but not necessarily. There may be times when colleges or individual faculty would like dedicated attention to their funding trajectory. Investing in a consultant can provide that added time and attention.

If you know of other platforms, please email us at ResearchDevelopment@asu.edu.
