Opportunity Information:

The Aurora Humanitarian Initiative  welcomes nominations for the 2021 Aurora Prize for Awakening Humanity, which recognizes and supports those who risk their own lives, health, or freedom to save the lives, health, or freedom of others suffering as a result of violent conflict, atrocity crimes, or other major human rights violations.

The annual award includes a $1 million prize.

Selection criteria for the prize includes:

Courage — Risking one's own life, health, or freedom for the sake of helping others survive threats to their lives, health, or freedom, and/or going beyond the call of duty of professional obligations for the sake of helping others survive such threats.

Commitment — An explicit intention to help others survive threats to their lives, health, or freedom; a direct involvement in helping others survive such threats; and/or being motivated by altruistic intentions.

Impact — Directly saving the lives, health, or freedom of a significant number of individuals; or having an impact on saving lives, health, or freedom in the nominee’s community, country, or globally, including over the longer term.

This year, a special nomination form has been introduced for candidates whose response to the COVID-19 pandemic in any professional or personal capacity has been exemplary.
