Applications for Under-recognized American Painters Over 45
The Provincetown Art Association and Museum (PAAM), a community of artists, a museum, a cultural resource, and an art school, invites applications for its Lillian Orlowsky and William Freed Grant, which awards grants annually to under-recognized American painters over the age of 45 with financial need.
Awards include a cash grant ranging between $5,000 and $30,000, and an exhibition at PAAM. Recipients are selected by a diverse group of jurors—artists, curators, professors, writers—based on the strength of the materials submitted in the application and the perceived adherence to the spirit of the grant: to assist under-recognized artists.
For this grant, painting is considered applying various media (oil, acrylic, gouache, ink, tempera, watercolor, egg tempera, casein, enamel) on paper, canvas, fabric, or wood, and includes fresco. The program excludes mixed media, encaustic, collage, dry pastels, chalk, digital paintings, prints, and work in graphite, or drawings. The use of multiple paint mediums is allowed (i.e., mixing acrylics with oils).
To be eligible, applicants must be age 45 and older and either be a citizen of the United States or have permanent residency in the United States.
