Applications for Fellowships in Theoretical Physics

Sponsors:
Simons Foundation
Amount:
$100,000
External Deadline:
09/28/21
Opportunity Information:

The Simons Foundation is inviting applications for the Simons Fellows in Theoretical Physics program.

Through the program, fellows receive salary replacement for up to 50 percent (up to a maximum of $100,000) of the fellow’s current academic-year salary, whether normally paid over nine or twelve months, and up to an additional $10,000 for expenses related to the leave. In addition, the fellow’s home institution will receive 20 percent overhead on allowed expenses. With regard to awards considered for 2022, the foundation encourages applications from those severely impacted by COVID-19 and for whom travel during the sabbatical period would be difficult. The foundation aims to support these sabbatical eligible fellows, even if remaining at their home institution is the only option.

Applicants must have a teaching or administrative tenured position within the physics or related department at the time of application department at a U.S. or Canadian college or university. Applicants must be approved for a full year of sabbatical research leave from their home institution, consisting of two consecutive semesters or three consecutive quarters with at least 50 percent of the year fully paid by the home university and no more than 50 percent fully or partly supported by the fellowship.

For complete program guidelines, application instructions, and a list of previous fellows, see the Simons Foundation.
