Opportunity Information:

The American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry (AAPD) is inviting applications for its Access to Care Grants program, which will award up to $20,000 in support of U.S.-based community-based initiatives that provide dental care and will ultimately serve as a dental home to underserved/limited-access children.

The AAPD defines a "Dental Home" as the ongoing relationship between the dentist and the patient, inclusive of all aspects of oral health care, delivered in a comprehensive, continuously accessible, coordinated, and family-centered way. The Dental Home should be established by no later than twelve months of age to help children and their families institute a lifetime of good oral health. A Dental Home addresses anticipatory guidance and preventive, acute, and comprehensive oral health care and includes referral to dental specialists when appropriate.

Eligible applicants include nonprofit organizations as defined under section 501(c)(3) or 501(c)(6) of the Internal Revenue Code; local health jurisdictions; county health departments; hospitals and clinics; state government agencies; colleges/schools of dentistry; colleges/schools of medicine (pediatric and family medicine departments only); and national, state, and local dental societies.

For complete program guidelines and application instructions, see the AAPD Foundation website.
