RFP for Academic Discoveries into Medicines for Alzheimer's Disease

Sponsors:
Alzheimer's Drug Discovery Foundation
Amount:
$600,000
External Deadline:
04/23/21
Opportunity Information:

The Alzheimer's Drug Discovery Foundation is accepting Letters of Intent for its ADDF-Harrington Scholar Program, which advances academic discoveries into medicines for Alzheimer's disease and related dementias.

The program aims to support hit-to-lead optimization through investigational new drug (IND)-enabling studies. To that end, the program will award $600,000 over two years in support of proposals with the potential to advance discovery into meaningful therapeutics to treat, prevent, or slow Alzheimer's disease or related dementias.

Funding priorities identified by ADDF include drug targets related to emerging therapeutic areas for dementia, particularly: epigenetics, including nucleosome dynamics, chromatin remodeling, DNA methylation, histone modifications [methylation, acetylation, phosphorylation, ubiquitylation, sumoylation, bromodomain protein modulators, isocitrate dehydrogenase modulators; and proteostasis, including autophagy, lysosomal biogenesis, proteasomal degradation, post-translational modification associated with proteostasis, protein folding/misfolding, ER stress, and extracellular clearance.

Other novel targets are encouraged, including but not limited to: neurovascular health, neuroprotection, synaptic activity and neurotransmitters, inflammation, mitochondria and metabolic function, ApoE, and other aging targets (e.g. senescent cells).

Letters of Intent are due April 23. Upon review, selected applicants will be invited to submit full proposals by July 30, 2021.

Eligible applicants include academic investigators at accredited medical centers, research institutions, and universities in the United States, Canada, or the United Kingdom. Lead investigators must have an MD and/or PhD equivalent. In addition, investigative teams should possess intellectual property (IP) or have potential for novel IP.

For complete program guidelines and application instructions, see the ADDF website.
