Each year, Sandia collects internal proposals to fund research projects managed by their Laboratory Directed Research & Development (LDRD) Office. These projects are transformational, high-risk, and create a lasting impact. Many of these projects achieve great results through the partnerships between Sandia researchers and universities, who provide their unique expertise and capabilities, and further develop talent pipelines and additional opportunities. For examples of these impacts, read the FY22 LDRD Annual Report. To facilitate potential university collaborations, Sandia is sharing identified needs and collecting research summaries from you, who are experts in many fields, to distribute to our laboratory researchers. To that end, we would like to identify faculty who:

conduct research in our identified collaborative areas
are interested in partnering with Sandia
have the bandwidth to support a research collaboration
would like to engage their students in national security research

To facilitate potential university collaborations, Sandia is sharing identified needs and collecting research summaries from you, who are experts in many fields, to distribute to our laboratory researchers. To that end, we would like to identify faculty who:

conduct research in our identified collaborative areas.
are interested in partnering with Sandia.
have the bandwidth to support a research collaboration.
would like to engage their students in national security research.

Sandia staff will submit their ideas (intent to submit) from December 11, 2023 – February 12, 2024. After the idea review and selection process, invited proposals will be submitted from March 26, 2024 – May 2, 2024. If a Sandia researcher is interested in forming a research collaboration with you based on the input you’ve provided, they will contact you directly before May 2, 2024.

This document highlights our LDRD research needs at the laboratory. Please review to see if your research aligns with our specific needs. If you are interested in partnering with our laboratory, fill in your information through this form. The research needs are grouped by Investment Area (e.g., Biosciences, Computing & Information Sciences etc.) in the document and utilized on the form. Each Investment Area has also provided a list of keywords that pertain to their research goals for FY25. You can select these as subcategories on your form submission as well to help Sandia researchers narrow the pool of potential collaborators. Input should be submitted by January 19, 2024.

Even if you submitted your research interests last year, you need to resubmit the form this year as we have modified our research needs and process.

Note: This is not a proposal call or a guarantee that you will be contacted to explore collaborations. However, by sharing this information, you are providing visibility to potential Sandia collaborators about your expertise and interest in new research partnerships. Since this information is shared broadly with our Sandia researchers, there may be opportunities identified for collaboration even outside of the LDRD program.
