Opportunity Kick-off: 2021 DoD Multidisciplinary University Research Initiative (MURI) Program
The Department of Defense (DoD) Multidisciplinary University Research Initiative (MURI) Program supports basic research in science and engineering at US institutions of higher education that is of potential interest to DoD. The program is focused on multidisciplinary research efforts where more than one traditional discipline interacts to provide rapid advances in scientific areas of interest to the DoD.
The MURI program is sponsored by the DoD branch research offices: the Army Research Office (ARO); the Air Force Office of Scientific Research (AFOSR); and the Office of Naval Research (ONR). Jointly, these offices release one MURI Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA) listing the topic areas of interest for each branch.
Annually, solicitations have specific topics that are determined by the Topic Chief. This opportunity kick-off event is targeted towards individuals who would like to know more about the process for socializing a topic with a Topic Chief in advance of the solicitation. Because this is an annual program, researchers must prepare well in advance for pursuit in order to be competitive.
Note: the solicitation is expected to be available in late March/early April 2021. Whitepapers are usually due the first week of June, with invited full applications due early September.
Awards are generally from $1.25M to $1.5M per year total budget for five years duration.
