NIH Supplement: Replication Studies

October 15, 2024

The NIH Common Fund has launched the Replication to Enhance Research Impact Initiative (Replication Initiative), a pilot approach to provide support to independently replicate significant lines of research and validate novel technologies. As part of this new initiative, the Common Fund has released a Notice of Special Interest (NOSI) to provide support for necessary preparatory activities to enable replication of impactful biomedical studies by an independent contract research organization (CRO).

  • Applicants must be requesting administrative support to an active NIH-supported parent award to be eligible under this NOSI. The parent award should be active for the entire period of the proposed supplement. Further eligibility requirements are detailed in the NOSI.
  • Applications must identify a preclinical study with high potential impact on public health that is amenable to replication by an independent CRO. The capabilities of the CRO(s) are listed on the Common Fund website.
  • The study to be replicated may be an experimental study (i.e., replicating an experiment) or a validation study (i.e., replicating a demonstration of the capabilities of a novel tool, technology, or method) and must be completed within the one-year budget period. The funding provided by this funding opportunity is not to directly perform replication activities, but to support preparatory activities and engagement with the CRO.
  • The replication studies will be performed by the CRO, and results will not be made public without consent of the original principal investigator(s).

  • Applications will be accepted through November 15, 2024 by 5:00 PM local time of applicant organization. See the full text of the NOSI for more information.
  • A technical assistance webinar will be held on October 29, 2024 from 4:00-5:00 PM ET. Use this link to register.
