Attend a FREE lecture from Dr. Freeman A. Hrabowski, III on October 20, 2023

October 06, 2023

The Frank L. Rhodes Annual lecture at Arizona State University brings national thought leaders to the community in order to advance conversation around higher education's role in society.

Dr. Freeman A. Hrabowski, III, will be presenting on the importance of public universities in American society and throughout the world on October 20, 2023.

Dr. Hrabowski was president of the University of Maryland, Baltimore County from 1992 until 2022. His scholarship focused on science and mathematics education, with an emphasis on minority participation and performance. He has won several accolades for his work, including election to the National Academy of Engineering, an American Council on Education Centennial Fellow, the Kerr Award (University of California, Berkeley), and the UCSF Medal (University of California, San Francisco).  He consults with the National Science Foundation and the National Institutes of Health. He co-founded the Meyerhoff Scholars Program in 1988, which is open to all high-achieving students committed to pursuit of higher education in STEM fields. The program is recognized as a national model for student success.

The Howard Hughes Medical Institute (HHMI) launched the Freeman Hrabowski Scholars Program in 2022. This program is informed by and modeled on the successful Meyerhoff Scholars Program but focused on faculty in higher education.  The Scholars Program supports faculty who are explicitly dedicated to creating diverse and inclusive lab environments for students. The award is incredibly generous and highly competitive. The nomination is open every other year.
