ASU Event: Indigenous Communities Response, Recovery, and Renewal in a Pandemic Era - Event Dates: 12/9/20 & 12/10/20
American Indian and Alaska Native (AI/AN) communities have been hit particularly hard by the COVID-19 pandemic. Hear from Indigenous voices on how tribal nations and communities have been impacted, the immediate responses taken, the lessons learned in preparation for the next surge. Questions and strategies to consider include the anticipated long-term implications of the pandemic on the health and well-being of Indigenous people and future directions tribes must take to move toward recovery and renewal.
Scientific research is central to addressing the health-related challenges of COVID-19 and universities play a critical role in providing research, expertise, and resources to combat this pandemic in all communities. As tribal nations and communities participate in testing, tracing, and treatment, issues of trust remain unresolved.
Walk with us through academic partnerships to communities and leaders who implemented emergency strategies and solutions during the first wave of the pandemic. Learn how research and innovation are responding to address the needs of tribal communities and discuss the importance of ensuring that integrity and tribally driven standards are in place when doing research in Indigenous Communities.
