Knowledge Enterprise (KE) is seeking nominations for the Chair position for Limited Submissions. In this role, the selected appointee will complete a two year term attached to the Vice President of Research (VPR) and work closely with the Research Development staff, specifically the Opportunity Manager (OM). An additional year of service is possible and will be negotiated within the last three months of the term.
Nominations for this position will be collected through InfoReady until the posted close date. Nominations will be accepted from individuals, chairs, school directors, and assistant/associate deans of research at ASU. Target skills and abilities are described below, along with the expected workload. Review of the nominations will be done by the VPR and selected staff members.

Required Experience
- Terminal degree in any discipline
- Associate level or higher faculty
- Experience with more than one federal sponsor agency, e.g., funded award for research
- Desire and interest in contributing to a transparent, equitable review of internal submissions at ASU
Position Requirements
Personal review of applications during a competition:
- Reads/ reviews the opportunity’s solicitation
- Reads/ reviews each application submitted
- Uses the InfoReady online platform to review/ rank each application
Chairing the review panel meeting:
- Reviews and uses the (RD provided) scoring/ data for each competition
- Guides the reviewer conversation to focus on the strength and weaknesses of the applications
- Reviews personal notes and meeting notes (provided by RD staff)
- Justifies final approvals/ declinations to RD staff for distribution
- Willingness to meet with applicants for discussion of the process
Other duties:
- Meets with RD Staff on a regular basis (typically every other month) to determine if updates are needed or to communicate and gaps
- Communicate with KE Leadership to be aware of university goals, new initiatives and focus areas.
- Meets with reviewers at annual appreciation luncheons/training
- Reviews/ signs letters of recognition (sent to ADRs) for reviewers service
- Represents the Limited Submissions process in regular ADR meetings.
- Represents the KED LS process at LS events (kick-offs, etc…)
- Collaborates with ASUF’s OCFR Director for reviews as needed (Keck= 3 step review process)
Position Details
- Typically, 12-15 review competitions per year, with up to three hours per review.
- Availability is needed mostly in the spring/ fall, but email and meeting availability is required throughout the calendar year.
- Reviews Mayo-Seed grant competitions in collaboration with Mayo Partners; two times/ year,
- Reviews Mayo-Seed grant NCE requests that are beyond the award terms.
