May 18, 2023

The Enrico Fermi Presidential Award was established by the Department of Energy in 1956. The prestigious award recognizes “individual(s) of international stature for exceptional scientific, technical, policy, and/or management achievements related to the broad missions of the DOE and its programs to address energy, environmental and nuclear challenges through transformative science and technology solutions.” The deadline for a nomination is Monday, July 10, 2023 at 5pm Eastern.

The Fermi Award is given for distinguished achievement, leadership, and service related to all basic and applied research, science, and technology supported by the U.S. Department of Energy and its programs.

  • The achievements must be identifiable as lasting, impactful, and substantial.
  • Only living nominees will be considered.
  • The Fermi Award is not limited to U.S. citizens.
  • The Fermi Award is not limited to researchers whose work has been funded by the U.S. Department of Energy (or its predecessor agencies).

Nominations must include a letter summarizing the candidate’s achievements, three to six letters of support, a CV, and a short bibliography. Note that nominations will be reviewed by an independent panel of international experts. Learn more here: https://science.osti.gov/fermi/Nomination-and-Selection-Guidelines.

ASU Knowledge Enterprise is pleased to invite nominations of ASU faculty for the Enrico Fermi Award. While there is no limit to the number of nominations ASU can put forward, Research Development is offering to support the development of nomination materials for those who wish to formally pursue the award. This is especially critical if the nominee would benefit from a letter of support from ASU leadership.

To submit an internal name(s) for this nomination, please visit our InfoReady portal: https://asu.infoready4.com/#freeformCompetitionDetail/1903732. Submissions are due by June 5 to be considered for support from Research Development.
