Postdoctoral Fellowship in Understanding Dynamic and Multi-Scale Systems

Sponsors:
James S. McDonnell Foundation
Amount:
$200,000
External Deadline:
06/13/19
Opportunity Information:
The James S. McDonnell Foundation supports scholarship and research directed toward the discovery and refinement of theoretical and mathematical tools that can contribute to the continued development of the study of complex, adaptive, nonlinear systems. The program's emphasis is on the development and application of theory and tools used in the study of complex research questions and not on particular fields of research per se. To that end, fellowship awards are designed to provide students with opportunities to pursue postdoctoral training and research opportunities aligned with their interest in obtaining additional skills and experience and that might not otherwise be available.      Grants of $200,000 (to be expended in no less than two and no more than three years) will be awarded to students in the final stages of completing a PhD who are committed to acquiring new skills and experience in a multi-disciplinary field such as complex systems science and who are looking to make a change in direction for their first postdoctoral fellowship (field of study, model organization, theory vs. experimental, etc.) that is either difficult or impossible without an external source of funding. Typically, JSMF can support up to ten fellowships per year. Fellowship grants will not be awarded until a recipient applies to and is accepted as a postdoctoral fellow at a qualified institution and the institution submits an acceptable request to JSMF to initiate the grant. See the James S. McDonnell Foundation website for complete program guidelines and application instructions.
