Opportunity Information:

In collaboration with the American Association of Nurse Anesthetists Foundation program, the Orthopedic Research and Education Foundation is accepting applications for its Multimodal Musculoskeletal Perioperative Pain Management Grant.

Grants of up to $50,000 will be awarded in support of investigator-initiated research proposals focused on the broad area of perioperative musculoskeletal pain management focused on but not limited to perioperative pain management opioid-sparing research through varying pain control techniques using non-narcotic, multimodal options; and the determination of the safest and most efficacious regional anesthesia techniques to provide benefit to patients undergoing orthopedic operations, including, but not limited to, the assessment of patient-reported outcomes and functional assessment.

Areas of research focus may include translational or clinical research but will preferably include at least pilot human studies.

The OREF/AANA Foundation requires a Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist (CRNA) in the role of Principal Investigator (PI) or co-PI who may be collaborating with a PhD and/or MD to foster the application of a full range of expertise, approaches, technologies, and creativity. A PhD may serve as the PI if a CRNA serves as co-PI. The CRNA serving as PI or co-PI must meet the requirements for Continuous Professional Certification by the National Board of Certification and Recertification for Nurse Anesthetists (NBCRNA), and a PhD serving as PI or co-PI must hold a faculty appointment. An MD serving as co-PI must have a valid license to practice in the United States.
