Institutional Review Board (IRB) Basics

Learn everything you need to know about obtaining IRB approval for your human subjects research. Presenters will discuss the purpose and function of the IRB, requirements for approval, and how to submit for review. A portion of the session will be devoted to audience Q&As and specific topics. This session is designed for faculty, staff, and student investigators who are new to the IRB review process or would like clarity on any aspects of IRB review.

Institutional Review Board (IRB) Q & A

Learn everything you need to know about obtaining IRB approval for your human subjects research. This session will be devoted to audience Q&As about the IRB ERA portal (electronic system used to review IRB submissions) and the review process. This session is designed for faculty, staff, and student investigators who would like support from IRB staff regarding the various steps in the IRB review process and navigating those steps.

Institutional Review Board (IRB) Consenting Best Practices

Learn everything you need to know about consenting participants for your human subject research (HSR). This session is devoted to key procedure in any HSR study, which is obtaining informed consent from your research participants. Topics to be discussed include: what are the elements of informed consent; when is verbal or written consent appropriate; and under what circumstances can informed consent be waived. This session is designed for faculty, staff and student investigators who would like to learn more about consenting for research.

Institutional Review Board (IRB) Human Subject Research with Children

Learn everything you need to know about the IRB compliance requirements to conducting human subjects research (HSR) with children. Per federal regulations, additional protections are necessary to protect minor participants in research. The session focuses on common issues related to conducting research with this vulnerable population. Topics to be discussed include: child assenting, parental permission procedures, additional site approval requirements, and

under what circumstances waiver of parental permission may be appropriate. This session is designed for faculty, staff and student investigators who would like support from IRB staff regarding their studies with minor participants.
