NSF- Israel Binational Science Foundation funding opportunities

The U.S.-Israel Binational Science Foundation (BSF) promotes scientific relations between the U.S. and Israel by supporting collaborative research projects in a wide range of basic and applied scientific fields, for peaceful and non-profit purposes.

In 2012, the BSF signed an umbrella Memorandum of Understanding with the U.S. National Science Foundation (NSF), for cooperation in joint funding of collaborative U.S.-Israeli scientific research. Consequently, the BSF signed a series of specific Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) and Letter of Intent (LOI) with a number of NSF units, for the joint funding of collaborative research programs. Presently, BSF has joint programs with all of the NSF grant making directorates and in each, with all or most divisions.

  • BSF Regular Research Grants Program. Deadline for applications has been changed and is now December 9, 2020. The website is now open for submission. The program regulations can be found here.
  • The NSF Office of International Science and Engineering (OISE) has announced a new program that will be open for joint NSF-BSF applications. The program seeks to understand the nature and scope of COVID-19 impacts on international collaboration in research and education. OISE further seeks to encourage creative efforts to leverage the unique moment to enable more robust, resilient and sustainable collaborations. More details can be found using the link: BSF will not accept applications related to education, even though education is part of this program. https://www.nsf.gov/pubs/2020/nsf20132/nsf20132.jsp?WT.mc_id=USNSF_25&WT.mc_ev=click
