The mission of the Patient-Centered Outcomes Research Institute (PCORI) is to help people make informed healthcare decisions and improve healthcare delivery and outcomes by producing and promoting high-integrity, evidence-based information that comes from research guided by patients, caregivers, and the broader healthcare community.

PCORI has issued a funding announcement for Advancing the Science of Engagement in Research. PCORI seeks to fund studies that build an evidence base on engagement in research, including developing and validating measures to capture the structure/context, process, and outcomes of engagement in research; techniques that lead to effective engagement in research; and how effective engagement techniques should be modified and resourced for different contexts, settings, and communities to ensure equity in engagement and research. The following proposals are invited:

Rapid Measurement Studies: Develop reliable and valid measures that enable future clinical comparative effectiveness research of engagement methods. Resources available will be limited to up to $1 million in direct costs over two years in this category.

Rapid Measurement Studies: Support projects that evaluate the impact of various engagement methods on key processes and outcomes of engagement and research. Resources available will be limited to up to $1.5 million in direct costs over 36 months in this category.

Letters of intent are due June 4, 2024, at 5:00 p.m. ET, and upon review, selected applicants will be invited to submit an application, due September 4, 2024, at 5:00 p.m. ET.
